Continuing Professional Competency Requirements |
|
The Engineer, Land Surveyor and Geologist Registration Law (Act), 63 P.S. §148 et seq., was amended and changed, effective May 12, 2010, to createmandatory continuing professional competency (CPC) requirements for licensed professional engineers, land surveyors and geologists. The amendment is known or has become familiar as Act 25 of 2010. The CPC requirements are based upon the continuing education provisions of the model law and rules of the National Council of Examiners in Engineering and Surveying (NCEES), the national non-profit organization of professional engineering and professional land surveying licensing boards.

As many applicants or candidates for licensure through the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs are aware, and particularly professional licensees have come to know, matters involving their licenses are governed by statute and regulation. It is, at times, confounding where licensees seek an answer only to discover that such answer may be embodied not only in statutory law but also in regulatory law.

Elizabeth A. Catania PE, F.NSPE Professional Board member (10/14/2010-10/14/2016)
Elizabeth (Lisa) Catania, who has been registered with the Board as a professional engineer for more than 22 years, is currently serving her first term as a professional member of the Board. In addition to her service on the Board, Ms. Catania is vice president of Catania Engineering Associates, Inc., Consulting Engineers and Land Surveyors, in Milmont Park, PA. As a Project Manager, she is responsible for conceptual design, development of alternatives, project design, construction procurement, and construction administration for a variety of civil engineering projects, including roadways, land development, storm and sanitary sewer systems, and utilities. As a Municipal Engineer, she provides consulting engineering services including engineering design and project management services for six municipalities and many county agencies throughout Delaware County. A graduate of Villanova University with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering in 1981, Ms. Catania was previously employed by Sun Company, where she was a civil/structural specialist prior to joining Catania Engineering Associates.
