K. Kevin Murphy

Director of Public Relations


 

{Director of Public Relations} K. Kevin Murphy was appointed Director of Public Relations in the Department of State's Office of Communications and Press on September 24, 2007. In this capacity, Mr. Murphy acts as liaison and advisor to the Secretary of the Commonwealth.

 

The Office of Communications and Press is responsible for assisting the Secretary of the Commonwealth in disseminating information to the news media and the public regarding the Department's regulatory and enforcement capacities.

 

Mr. Murphy brings extensive legal expertise to the Department through more than 21 years of Commonwealth service. Prior to this appointment, he served the Commonwealth from January 2005 until September 2007 as Deputy Chief Counsel/Senior Counsel with American Education Services, where he provided enterprise-wide legal and business guidance.

 

From October 2000 to January 2005, Mr. Murphy served as a Senior Attorney with the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, where he provided business and legal guidance, structured and negotiated $30 million in annual product and service contracts, and was responsible for regulatory and corporate compliance.

 

Mr. Murphy began his Commonwealth career in February 1986 as Legal Counsel for the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, representing the agency in trial and appellate litigation throughout the United States state and federal court systems.

 

Mr. Murphy earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science, with a concentration in Government Studies, from Queens College in 1982. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1985.

 

Mr. Murphy has been admitted to the United States Supreme Court, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the United States District Courts in the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Pennsylvania.

 

He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Association of Corporate Counsel, the National Council of Higher Education Loan Programs' Legal Committee and the Keystone Bar Association.

 

Mr. Murphy resides in Harrisburg, Dauphin County.
